Nutrition and Food Assistance

 Congregate Meals

Dining centers operate in Caribou, Fort Kent, Houlton, Madawaska, Presque Isle, Van Buren.  Noon meals are available for any person age 60 or older who wants to enjoy food, friends and occasional recreational and educational programs.

 Home Delivered Meals
Home-bound older people throughout Aroostook county who are unable to attend dining centers and have difficulty preparing their own meal may be eligible for Meals-on-Wheels service.

Food Support
If you're finding yourself choosing between groceries and other household and medical expenses you're not alone. Not having enough money to buy groceries, or a support network to obtain easy access to nutritious food, is increasingly common among older adults. Many individuals face retirement choosing between buying medications or milk, paying the electric bill or buying a carton of eggs. Let Aroostook Agency on Aging help. We can help connect you to a local food pantry where food may be available for you to pick up.

Commodity Supplemental Food Program
click here for forms to apply for this benefit

The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) provides individuals 60 and older with about 30 pounds of commodity food items such as dry pasta, cereal, canned meats and vegetables, and cheese.*
  • Are you 60 or older?
  • Is your income under $1307 per month for one or $1,760 for two?
  • Would you be able to pick up the food once a month in a designated location like a food pantry near where you live?
If you said yes to all three, you may be able to receive a free 30 pound box of food through the CSFP. Please print out an application form, complete it, and return it to begin the process.
If you are concerned about being able to pick-up the food each month you can designate a family member, friend, or neighbor to pick up the food on your behalf by completing and returning a proxy form with your application.
Please mail your completed application to:

*The US Department of Agriculture supports the Commodity Supplemental Food Program. Actual package contents may vary from month to month but will meet the 30 pound guidelines.
